Within the context of the faculty introduction, UM can process the following personal data:
UM receives a large portion of the data directly from you through your registration at UM. UM acquires other information from third parties that have processed your personal data on UM’s instruction or that are legally obliged to share your personal data with UM.
Special personal data is data of a sensitive nature. For example, this can be data showing your race or ethnic origin, political views, religion or philosophy, trade union membership or sexual orientation. Data about your health, genetic data or biometric data with which you can be identified (such as a fingerprint) are also special personal data.
In the context of the faculty introduction activities, UM does not intend to process special personal data. However, it may occasionally happen, such as when you indicate that you need special facilities. UM will handle the data with care.
UM processes the above personal data for the following purpose: to enable participation in the digital platform for the faculty introduction. This includes the use of the platform. Even after the faculty introduction, the platform remains live during the academic year 2020-2021, and your data can still be processed.
UM also processes personal data (image recordings) for promotional purposes.
Whenever UM processes your personal data, it does so with a lawful basis for processing. A lawful basis for processing is the grounds for processing personal data.
UM processes your personal data for the implementation of (the introduction to) education so that students can make digital contact with one another.
Sometimes UM is legally obliged to process your personal data, such as if there is an incident involving the police. It may also be the case that UM processes your data to protect your vital interests, such as in the event of a medical emergency.
Finally, UM sometimes has a legitimate interest in processing your personal data. This is the case with photos taken and videos made during the faculty introduction. These may be used for promotional purposes. You may object to this (see also ‘Your rights’). You can make your objections known to privacy@maastrichtuniversity.nl.
UM does not keep personal data for longer than is necessary to achieve the purpose of the processing or to comply with a legal obligation. The platform will remain online during the 2020/21 academic year. Afterwards, it will go offline, and all data on the platform will be deleted.
UM has taken steps to ensure that only those persons who need to process your personal data have access to it. Your personal data will not be shared with third parties, except for those parties that enable UM to perform the activities of the faculty introduction, which may have access to personal data. UM has made written agreements with these parties about the processing and security of personal data. This includes the creator of the social platform.
